With August just a few months away the CARIFESTA VII spirit has encompassed the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Response from the Wider Caribbean Region and the international community is also being felt on a large scale as the Committee is bombarded with input.

The CARIFFESTA Marketing Committee chairperson, Christine Walwyn has also attributed the general exuberance surrounding CARIFESTA to the "New Millennium Fever" which she said has "spilled over" into CARIFESTA VII preparations. The year 2000 therefore has special significance.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) took a step towards close r cooperation when high level officials from the two regional groupings met in Kingston, Jamaica on 17-18 April, 2000. The Delegations of both CARICOM and SADC included representatives from their respective Member States.

The heat of CARIFESTA VII is beginning to spread throughout St. Kitts and Nevis with the launch of material to promote the event.

The second leg of the launch takes place Friday April 14 on the island of Nevis. The first phase of the launch took place on Friday April 7 in downtown Basseterre, St. Kitts. The twin island Federation will host CARIFESTA VII August 17-26, 2000.

Nine Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are among Heads of State and Government from 133 countries in Havana, Cuba for the South Summit which takes place from 10-14 April 2000. All CARICOM Member States are expected to be represented at the meeting.

As preparations for the staging of the Seventh Caribbean Festival of Creative Arts (CARIFESTA), scheduled for August in St. Kitts and Nevis, gains momentum across the region, the Regional Cultural Committee (RCC) is expected to give priority attention to the status of these preparations when they meet for two days later this month in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Today April 7, marks the occasion of World Health Day, when the attention of the World is drawn to a particularly important aspect of Health. This year's theme " Safe Blood Saves Lives" gives us an opportunity to focus both on our lives as well as the lives of others.

This focus on blood safety and safe blood donation encourages Member States to commit to and support national blood programmes, and implement a legal framework, to support their national blood programme, to ensure the provision of safe blood for life saving transfusions.

Due to the need to garner all resources for the staging of CARIFESTA VII in August of this year, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has taken the decision to postpone the year 2000 Music Festival.
