(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community Secretariat in partnership with Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) is launching a competition among Caribbean Media in the reporting and documentation of activities related to the observance of Caribbean Wellness Day on 12 September 2009.

The annual event, which focuses on reducing Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCDs), will be observed under the theme Love that Body, and is expected to build on last year's inaugural Caribbean Wellness Day.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Mediation Process established by Agreement between the West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Players Association on 21 July under the good offices of the Chairman of CARICOM, President Bharrat Jagdeo, has ended without agreement between the Parties. In announcing this today, a clearly disappointed Sir Shridath Ramphal, said that it was another bad day for West Indian cricket which, without fundamental changes, is now likely to deteriorate further.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Young talent was unleashed at the National Park in Georgetown, Guyana Monday, as the Youth Village, a special area of focus for CARIFESTA X, got underway.

Visitors got a taste of the activities in which the youths will be involved over the next four days, at the formal opening of the Youth Village on Monday afternoon. `The New System Brass Band’ of Suriname energised the crowd at the opening and conclusion of the ceremony that also featured piano and poetry recitals, dances and steelpan renditions.

The annual event, which focuses on reducing Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCDs), will be observed under the theme Love that Body, and is expected to build on last year's inaugural Caribbean Wellness Day.

Already, several countries are going full speed ahead with preparations to promote healthy lifestyles through physical activity and to “make every day a wellness day.”

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community Secretariat will once again join Member States within the Community to observe Caribbean Wellness Day (CWD) on Saturday 12 September, 2009 as CARICOM seeks to promote healthy lifestyle through physical activity.

Among the slate of activities proposed for the Secretariat for the week of 7-12 September are a lifestyle management seminar, a soca-erobathon,’ a ‘walk good; walk healthy’ day, health checks and healthy cooking demonstrations.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) notes with profound concern and deep disappointment the decision of the British Government to dissolve the Government and the legislature, as well as to suspend the right to trial by jury in the Turks and Caicos Islands all in reaction to the adverse findings of the Report of the Commission of Inquiry on the administration of the territory.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Board of Directors of the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) has set 24 August 2009 as the date for the commencement of full operations of the CDF.

The date was set after the 5th Regular Board Meeting approved the regulations and procedures which will govern the operations of the CDF.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The second phase of a Caribbean Community (CARICOM) project to expose tertiary-level education students to the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) started on Monday 10 August 2009 with a pre-mission briefing in Saint Lucia. Similar sessions for the second phase of the Students' project will be held in eight other CARICOM Member states.
