(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The consolidation of five institutions that provide public health services in the Caribbean Community and the operation of the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/Aids (PANCAP) Coordinating Unit will be among the issues in the health sector that will be up for discussion by CARICOM Heads of Government when they meet in Guyana 2-5 July 2009.

Both issues featured prominently in the 2001 Nassau Declaration β€œThe Health of the Region is the wealth of the Region” that was issued by CARICOM Heads of Government.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)Β  Guyana’s Alika Morgan, reigning female champion for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Annual 10K Road Race is set to compete on home turf when the fifth staging of the 10K Race opens on Sunday 28 June, just a couple of days before the 30th Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government in Guyana.

A fifth victory in her own backyard would not only seal Morgan as the invincible queen of the road but would be a fitting tribute to her country and President H.E. Bharrat Jagdeo, the incoming Chairman of CARICOM.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean negotiators have come out of the first round of negotiations on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) Text of the draft Declaration for a New Climate Change Agreement very optimistic that significant common understanding has been built to facilitate the negotiations, when the UN Conference of Parties (COP 15) meet in Copenhagen in December.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo, President of the Republic of Guyana and Incoming Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), said Friday that the regional integration movement remained on course and called on Member States to recommit to integration.

He gave this reassurance at a media briefing ahead of the Thirtieth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, scheduled for 2-4 July, 2009, in Georgetown, Guyana. The media briefing was held at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown.
