(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Ambassador Faith Radebe, the first Plenipotentiary Representative of South Africa to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has emphasised the need for greater bilateral collaboration in the face of the global financial and economic crisis.

She said the crisis “impressed upon us cooperation demands that have never been seen before”.

The establishment of an Embassy of Mexico in Georgetown, Guyana - the home of the headquarters of the Caribbean Community - marks a significant signpost in the long standing relationship between the Caribbean Community and Mexico. Our close and historic relations were formalized in 1974, with the signing of the Agreement establishing the CARICOM-Mexico Joint Commission. This has placed Mexico at the top of the list, as the first country to establish a Joint Commission with CARICOM.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The CARICOM Commission on Youth Development (CCYD) is preparing its regional report on findings of a research done on the situation of Caribbean youth which will be a major input into its report to the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.

As a result, the Commission is engaged in a flurry of activities designed primarily to highlight, to the Region, some of the key issues emanating from the research.
