(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Fifteen countries from the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM), are participating in a four-day workshop in Jamaica which profiles fisheries management in Region, even as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) finalises negotiation for a Common Fisheries Policy.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Sir Edwin Carrington, Trinidad and Tobago’s Plenipotentiary Representative to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), presented his credentials to Secretary-General Irwin LaRocque on Wednesday, signaling the start of his third relationship with the CARICOM Secretariat.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Dr Heather Johnson, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat Deputy Programme Manager, Youth Development says, young people who are constantly exposed to violence invariably develop complex psychosomatic illnesses which very often lead to other chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, mental illnesses and heart diseases.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The third leg of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) National Consultations on Gangs and Gang violence project opened in St Kitts and Nevis on Monday with a call from that country’s Minister of Social Development Culture and Gender Affairs Honourable Marcella Liburd for “traditional shapers of society “to reassert their role in order to mitigate the culture of youth gangs and violence which has pervaded the society.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) I am particularly pleased to join in welcoming all our participants to the Second Meeting of the Caribbean Basin Security Commission and to state how grateful we are to the Government of Guyana for agreeing to host this year’s meeting and for the warm hospitality extended to the delegations represented here today.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The United States has renewed its commitment to strengthen security structures within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) such as the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS).

This commitment came in a Joint Statement issued following the Second Caribbean-United States Security Cooperation Dialogue held last Thursday 10 November in Nassau, The Bahamas.
