(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) must continue to support Haiti and allow sufficient time for that Member State to continue its efforts to participate fully in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, H.E. Lolita Applewhaite, Deputy Secretary-General, CARICOM said Monday.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) the Hon Roosevelt Skerrit said CARICOM would have discussions with the University of the West Indies (UWI) with a view to creating special programmes for displaced tertiary students in Haiti.

He was responding to queries at a press conference, in Paramaribo, Suriname, following the inaugural CARICOM Summit on Youth Development, 29-30 January.

CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Haiti’s CARICOM Youth Ambassador, Leticia Cadet, on Thursday, made an impassioned plea to the Caribbean Community to help re-build, as a matter of priority, the education system in Haiti.
At a special meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) in Paramaribo, Suriname, Ms Cadet recalled with obvious grief the devastation caused by the earthquake, which crippled Port-au-Prince on 12 January, leaving in its wake a climbing death toll of more than 200, 000.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Bureau of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has mandated the CARICOM Secretariat to establish a small dedicated unit to co-ordinate CARICOM’s continued assistance to Haiti over the long term in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake which struck that country on 12 January.
The extended Bureau met in Paramaribo, Suriname, on Friday, hours before the start of a two-day Special Summit on Youth, to discuss principally the situation in Haiti.
