(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) A Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Environmental Policy and Action Programme is being developed with the assistance of the Government of Japan.

With financing from the Japan-CARICOM Friendship and Cooperation Fund (JCFCF), a regional, integrated policy to ensure protection of the environment and the natural resources will be developed to address selected environmental themes and economic sectors, which have been prioritised by the Community.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Four Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) will come under focus later this month when two workshops are convened in Saint Lucia to address harmonized reporting by Caribbean countries, and the use of Integrated Environment Assessment (IEA) tools for mainstreaming those agreements into national policy development.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Representatives from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat are currently visiting Member States to assess their current position regarding statistics on the environment.

The team from the Secretariat’s Regional Statistics Programme is currently in Antigua and Barbuda after leaving Dominica on Thursday following a two-day visit. The team moves on to Jamaica on Monday, 26 November.

This was the view of the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque as he addressed the opening of the Twenty-Fourth Session of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
