The Organisation of Amercan States (OAS) Secretariat through the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Program (CSEP) and the Energy Efficiency Working Group of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), hosted a workshop on energy efficiency designs for office and public buildings in tropical climates. The event took place at the Bay Gardens Inn in Rodney Bay from February 28th through March 1st, 2013. The CARICOM Secretariat is a Partner of the CSEP Project.

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – St. Lucia was jolted by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 late on Tuesday night, the Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) reported Wednesday. It said that the quake occurred at 11.45 pm (local time) and was located at 14.02° degrees north, and 60.61 degrees west. UWI said that the quake with a depth of 20km “may have been felt in nearby islands” but that there have been no reports of injury or damage.

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – The European Union is providing EC$37 million (One EC dollar = US$0.37 cents) over a five year period to St. Lucia under the Banana Accompanying Measures (BAM) to finance the government’s Agricultural Transformation Programme (ATP).
“Today marks another milestone on our journey towards the restructuring of our agricultural sector. This we hope to achieve through specific interventions in a bid to make it more sustainable and competitive for the future,” said Prime Minister and Minister and Finance, Dr. Kenny Anthony.

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony has been defending his government's decision to join the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) dismissing suggestions that membership would harm the island’s future socio-economic development.
Last month, Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy said St. Lucia was joining Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines as the newest member of the Venezuelan-led initiative.

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony will deliver the national budget on Tuesday, May 14.
The budget presentation follows the completion of the debate on the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure over the last weekend. The debate on the budget presentation will be May16-17.
The government is expected to table an EC$1.3 billion (One EC dollar = US$0.37 cents) fiscal package and has already indicated that the recently introduced value added tax (VAT) would not be increased.

CASTRIES, St.Lucia, CMC-Leader of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Stephenson King, says he is ready to make a claim for re-election to the leadership of the party as it prepares for its July convention.
The former Prime Minister’s  announcement came in the wake of a declaration by his former Tourism Minister Allen Chastanet that he is giving serious thought to mounting a challenge to King’s leadership.

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony is warning of the difficult task ahead as he gets ready to present his administration’s budget statement to Parliament later on Friday. As debate on the estimates began on Thursday, Anthony, who is also finance minister, said the fiscal deficit was at least nine per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) and noted that for the first time since the island attained political independence from Britain in 1979, the fiscal package has been reduced to reflect a serious downturn in the local economy.

LONDON (CMC) -Saint Lucia has launched its 2013 Sports Tourism Programme by unveiling a series of initiatives aimed at bolstering the country’s sub-sector. They include TriStLucia 2013, the island’s inaugural Triathlon event an initiative with London Olympic Triathlon Race organiser John Lunt and athletics legend Daley Thomson For the first time, the island will also host the inaugural Sports in Black and White Conference and Youth Forum in June.
