CASTRIES, St. Lucia, Jan 4, CMC - Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony says St. Lucia has the largest fiscal deficit in the Caribbean as he prepares to address the nation on Sunday on the economic challenges facing the island. "Where as other Caribbean states might have a fiscal deficit of seven to eight per cent of GDP (Gross Domestic Product), we are climbing up to 10 per cent. That’s a warning sign so we have really got to ensure that we bring it under some degree of control, and resolve those differences.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Last week Thursday, Audrian Augier, co-Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Regional Task Force on Cultural Industries, told a meeting of youth, culture and sport ministers that the Caribbean Region had failed to maximise its advantage in the creative cultural industries and as such had forfeited significant potential revenue which could be derived from their top-earning artists and entrepreneurs.

  (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will mount an Observer Mission to elections in Saint Lucia on 28 November 2011. The 10-member team will be headed by Chief of Mission, Ambassador Rudy Collins of Guyana. Deputy Chief of Mission is Mr. Eugene Petty of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The island's Minister for Sustainable Development, Hon. Dr. James Fletcher will chair the high-level meeting.
The Government of Saint Lucia, on Thursday 19th June 2014, will host the first meeting of a High-Level CARICOM Task Force on Sustainable Development in the Conference Room of the Ministry of the Public Service, Information and Broadcasting. 

Saint Lucia’s Minister for Public Service, Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Hon. James Fletcher, has been chosen by the CARICOM Secretariat to chair this high-level Regional Task Force.

Our presence on the island is at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia; our mandate comes from CARICOM Heads of State and Government who instructed that an observer mission be present for these elections.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) At least two CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) have ensured that the voices of youth resounded on the issue of Sexual Health and Reproduction, through their participation in a panel discussion held Tuesday 11 July in Saint Lucia, in observance of World Population Day.

The exercise was staged by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and involved more than 30 CYAs, as well as local and regional officials. It was moderated by Dominica’s CARICOM Youth Ambassador, Fenella Wenham.
