PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Confidence is low among Caribbean businesses, with only the largest companies reporting signs of an upward swing in prospects for the future, according new research. The Global Economic Conditions Survey from ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), which gauges the views of finance professionals across the world, revealed that the Caribbean’s business community had little to feel good about in first quarter of 2013.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC - The Governments of Trinidad and Tobago and Canada have agreed to co-host a CARICOM Public-Private Partnerships Seminar and business-to-business meetings in Port-of-Spain later this year. The agreement was reached following discussions held in Ottawa on Thursday between Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar who is on a four day official visit to Canada.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - A political showdown between former national security minister Jack Warner and Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley is expected to take place at the Parliament today.
Warner is expected to defend himself against a private motion filed by Rowley which takes issue with the allegations of corruption against Warner in his private capacity as a former football jefe and criticises Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for inaction in protecting the image of this country.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Chaguanas West Member of Parliament Jack Warner addressed his constituents at a meeting at the Pierre Road Recreation Ground in Charlieville on Thursday night, as he sought to clear the air on his recent resignation as National Security Minister and chairman of the United National Congress (UNC). Warner told the audience that he remains loyal to the UNC but he intends to tender his resignation as Chaguanas West MP and contest the subsequent bye-election as a UNC candidate.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Former national security minister Austin “Jack” Warner Thursday night announced his resignation as a legislator paving the way for a by-election in the Chaguanas West constituency within 90 days.
Warner, who resigned earlier this week as a Cabinet minister and as chairman of the United National Congress (UNC), the biggest partner in the four-party coalition People’s Partnership government, said he had already informed Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar of his decision.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Noting that the world is vastly changing, Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development, Bhoendradatt Tewarie, has called for greater regional integration. Speaking with reporters after the launch of the National Spatial Development Strategy Workshop on Wednesday at the Cascadia Hotel, St Ann’s, Tewarie said there was a greater need for co-operation within region today. “Islands cannot be sustainable without interconnectivity and collaboration,” he said.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - As the Prime Minister begins the first full day of her official four-day visit to Canada today, a trade and investment mission facilitated by InvesTT and ExporTT will conduct a concurrent session from tomorrow. “From April 25-27, a delegation of Trinidad and Tobago senior government officials and private sector business leaders will conduct a trade and investment mission to Toronto, parallel to an official visit by the Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to Canada,” a release from the Government Information Services Ltd (GISL) said yesterday.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - t is rather worrisome that acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams should have chosen to fulsomely praise fired national security minister Jack Warner. “He has been an exceptional minister, and I want to put that on record,” Mr Williams told the media last Monday. Even in the normal course of affairs, the Commissioner of Police should refrain from expressing an opinion about any minister of national security. This is because, although the minister sets policy, the office of the CoP is supposed to be non-partisan.
