(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, greater Georgetown, Guyana) Nobel Laureate the Honourable Derek Walcott OCC will participate in a Symposium scheduled for Sunday 24 August as part of the Tenth Caribbean Festival of the Arts (CARIFESTA X) which opens in Guyana on Friday 22 August.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Chile's new Ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) yesterday underscored his country’s interest in developing closer ties with the Community in trade, poverty alleviation and coastal border administration.

His Excellency José Gabriel Zepeda presented his credentials to CARICOM Secretary-General His Excellency Edwin Carrington on Wednesday August 20, 2008 at the headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) H.E. Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), has recognised the "sterling" accomplishment of Ms Veronica Campbell-Brown. Ms. Campbell-Browne of Jamaica won the Women’s 200 metres sprint at the Beijing Olympics.

In a congratulatory message, the Secretary-General congratulated Ms Campbell-Brown on achieving also the "rare feat of defending an Olympic crown successfully in the sprint events".

Large birds will fly; horses from Guyanas Rupununi region will dance; Jaguars will prowl; people will land from the sky; glyphs and nymphs will leap from the stadium floor as over three thousand performers transform a cricket ground into a Caribbean world of magnificence.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), H.E. Edwin Carrington has extended congratulations to Mr. Usain Bolt on his victories in the 100 and 200 metres at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Mr. Bolt won the 200 metres on Wednesday 20 August 2008, and broke the record set by American Michael Johnson. The Jamaican athlete won the 100 metres last week with a world record.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Jamaican athletes Ms Shelly Ann Fraser and Ms Melanie Walker were commended by Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) H.E. Edwin Carrington for their performances at the Beijing Olympics.

In a message of congratulations to the athletes, the Secretary-General said it was with "great pride and pleasure that I extend to Ms Fraser and Ms Walker in particular and their compatriots for the fine example they have offered to Regional youth of world class excellence".
