 (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) CARICOM Secretary-General, His Excellency Edwin Carrington recently received the International Third World Leaders Association (ITWLA), Distinguished Global Leadership Award.

ITWLA, based in The Bahamas, is a global network of Christian leaders from more than 40 nations. Its membership encompasses leaders from among government officials, church leaders, athletes, business persons and educators. The Association is committed to providing relevant resources and skills refinement for global leaders.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  Under the theme, Leadership: Uniting Vision and Purpose, the Eighth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) was held on 29 -31 October 2008, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The three-day meeting attracted some 170 registered and specially invited guests drawn from 29 countries of the English, Dutch, French and Spanish Caribbean, 33 regional agencies, 15 bilateral and multilateral agencies and 10 development partners.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, H.E. Edwin Carrington has called on the Region to increase productivity and enhance its competitiveness to adequately confront the effects of more open markets.

The Secretary-General gave the charge at his end-of-year press conference via videoconferencing anchored at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana on 18 December 2007. With him in Georgetown were members of Executive Management of the Secretariat and other senior staff members.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), H.E. Edwin Carrington has extended deepest condolences to the wife, relatives, and Government of Jamaica, on the passing of the late outstanding athlete, Herbert Henry McKenley.

In a Tribute to Mr. McKenley, the Secretary-General said that his outstanding achievements seated him comfortably among the distinguished stalwarts of any era, nationally, regionally and globally.

Tomorrow, 8th December, together with the kindred peoples of the Caribbean, we celebrate Cuba-CARICOM Day.

This is the 35th anniversary of the joint decision by Barbados, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Jamaica and the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba, a brave gesture that defied the policy of isolation imposed by the United States on our country in the Latin American and Caribbean context.
