BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC – The Belize-based Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) Monday began the first of a series of risk management workshops in Suriname as it seeks to develop a regional approach to climate change risk management. The CCCCC said that representatives from the UK based consulting group Acclimatise, will assist in conducting the high-level workshops in Suriname, Barbados, Jamaica and Belize.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Jan 30, CMC – The European Union is providing Euro 5.13 million (One Euro =US$1.35 cents) to Montserrat as part of a financial package to the Overseas British territory.
European Union Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Mikael Barfod said the overall package of Euro 15.66 million is to help boost Montserrat’s economic growth and development.
The EU support will primarily assist with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Plan of Montserrat as part of the country's economic recovery.

(de Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Lackin confirms the European delegation in Suriname is about to leave the country. “I regret this decision and we are doing our utmost to keep the EU here in the current form.” Lackin says he was informed of the EU’s new plans a year ago. These plans include working from regional offices to cut costs.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque deemed the Surinamese Youth programmes as a regional Best Practice.

On the second day of his official visit to Suriname, the Secretary-General was brought up to date on the activities and plans of Surinamese youth and was particularly impressed by the exciting programmes outlined to him by the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYA) at a meeting in Paramaribo on Tuesday 13 December.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) End violence against women was the clear message that resonated with speakers at the opening ceremony of the Caribbean artistes UNITE-ing against Gender Based Violence workshop in Paramaribo, Suriname on Monday, 18 July, 2011.

The workshop was organized in tandem with UN Women to train Caribbean artistes to raise awareness on gender based violence and promote positive attitudes and behaviour towards a more gender sensitive community through the use of edutainment.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat Programme Manager for Culture and Community Development, Dr Hilary Brown is of the opinion that the Caribbean needs to do more to strengthen its heritage tourism product.

She believes that “much more could be done” to develop the Region’s natural and built heritage which is an invaluable resource in building Heritage Tourism.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Eighteenth Meeting of the Caribbean Community Council of Ministers got underway in Georgetown, Guyana on Friday 19 May, with Trinidad and Tobago announcing its willingness to assist Suriname in the wake of heavy flooding in that Member State of the Community.

The Council, comprising Ministers responsible for CARICOM Affairs, was set to finalise a range of issues which are likely to come before the Conference of Heads of Government on 3-6 July in St Kitts and Nevis at its 27th Regular Meeting.
