In strategizing for the new period of operation, the IICA Office in Guyana Technical Cooperation Strategy (ICS) will be aligned with the general functionality of the Medium-Term Plan (MTP) 2014-2018. The general approach in the preparation of the document has been one of consultation, both at the levels of document/policy analysis and formal discussions with officials of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and other stakeholders.

In evaluating Guyana’s progress toward the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Government of Guyana has identified MDG 5 – improve maternal health – as the goal that needs prioritisation if its associated targets are to be achieved by 2015 and thus a higher standard of maternal health care is to be established and sustained in the long run. Although there has been progress toward this goal, significant challenges remain.
The 24th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM recently adopted a “Regional Crime and Security Strategy”.
The Strategy resulted from consultations among regional security officials of CARICOM Member States by the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS), as mandated by the Council of Ministers Responsible for National Security and Law Enforcement (CONSLE) at its Fifth Meeting.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was invited by the Government of the Republic of Guyana to establish a Mission to observe the 2011 General Elections.
In response to that invitation a fifteen (15) member Observer Group under the leadership of Mr. Hensley Robinson of Barbados and Ms. Lorna Simon of Antigua and Barbuda was selected with the Core Group of Mr. Robinson and Ms. Simon arriving in Guyana on Tuesday, 22 November 2011.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) End violence against women was the clear message that resonated with speakers at the opening ceremony of the Caribbean artistes UNITE-ing against Gender Based Violence workshop in Paramaribo, Suriname on Monday, 18 July, 2011.
The workshop was organized in tandem with UN Women to train Caribbean artistes to raise awareness on gender based violence and promote positive attitudes and behaviour towards a more gender sensitive community through the use of edutainment.
