(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean countries are well poised to respond to the challenges in sustaining the HIV response in the Region.

This was the key message of Ms. Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, Director, Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) who was at the time addressing a session on the sustainability of the Caribbean Region’s HIV response at the XII International AIDS Conference (IAC). The IAC is being held from 22-27 July 2012 in Washington, DC, USA.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) PANCAP’s Caribbean Regional Social Marketing Project (CARISMA) will be rolling out a new media campaign in five English speaking Caribbean countries (Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana and Saint Lucia) on July 25, 2012. The campaign aims to generate more compassion and respect for individuals living with HIV.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) in collaboration with the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GIZ), EPOS Health Management (EPOS) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) will host a Roundtable under the theme “How to Improve Access to HIV Services for Migrants in the Caribbean” at the 2011 Caribbean HIV and AIDS Conference (CHIV) in The Bahamas.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The United Nations (UN) Secretary General, Ban-Ki - Moon, has appointed former CARICOM Secretariat Assistant Secretary-General, Dr. Edward Greene as UN Special Envoy for HIV in the Caribbean. In this role Dr. Greene will be responsible for advancing the cause of HIV/AIDs in accordance with the UN mandates, and in collaboration with the Executive Director of UNAIDS and the regional and national institutions in the Caribbean

Let me begin by thanking our host – the Prime Minister and people of St. Maarten – and congratulating you on your new status and constitution.

These are exciting times for the entire country. I wish you all the very best for the future.

We are here to mark the 10th anniversary of the Pan-Caribbean Partnership against HIV/AIDS [PANCAP], to look at what has been achieved and discuss the challenges ahead.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) A Special Meeting of the CARICOM Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on 9-10 June 2006 agreed on a framework of action for a more positive role of the national and regional educational sectors in HIV and AIDS response.
